What is the best gift to give? Good design of course!
This office before + AFTER starts with a lovely family in Santa Monica that found themselves constantly busy with a young child, crazy work schedules and no time to decorate their new home.
Their shared office was especially driving them nuts as it had become a catch all for books, paperwork and a collection of bookshelves that had followed them from house to house since college. They both wanted a serene and collected space that reflected their mutual interests and offered them a quiet space to work or take a phone call.
However – their hectic schedules meant that this office project kept being pushed back and pushed back to the point it seemed it was never going to get done. So with the holiday season approaching, the wife had the genius idea to give the gift of a designed office to her husband! No excuses now!
We came in and assessed the space, walked through the clients wish list and then set off to design the office they hadn’t quite gotten around to yet…
Who else forgets to take good before shots? Anyways – from what you can see in these pictures you can tell once we got all the ‘stuff’ pulled out – this room actually has great bones! Beautiful wide plank oak floors – very tall ceilings and a shiplap feature wall. Fantastic starting point!
Since this is a shared office space we wanted the design to balance both masculine and feminine within a very practical design. Our palette utilized natural tones of wood and steel with pops of blue. Utilizing those ideas we wanted to create a transitional space which is the marriage of contemporary and classic furniture – making for a more modern, timeless design.
After we had nailed the concept and then entered the sourcing stage, I may or may not have gotten a little carried away and put together several design scenarios for the client. I was having too much fun to stop at just one!

After getting feedback and working through a few of the design kinks – we arrived at the final design plan that suited the clients and the space best.

And with the final sign off under our belt – we took to gathering everything and preparing to makeover the space.
For a quick reminder, this is what we started with –
