I keep hammering on at myself about staying loose when I am painting – treating my work like an experiment vs a product and the other night I tried to follow my own advice.

Below are four “studies” on shapes, layering and color theory.

I feel that I was finally able to find a way to introduce lines into the same doodle which I often find myself repeating in my mixed media works – which was a game changer!! Now my favorite swirly line is a strong graphic line.

Majorly design geeking out right now!

You can see below the materials I used to create these studies. Ive taken to using house paint samples along with my normal acrylics because they come in some pretty incredible pre-mixed colors! They can be washed down quite strongly to make a transparent wash – which is something I’m experimenting with at the moment.

Shop the Supplies: Reeves Acrylic / Pentel Oil Pastels / Daler Rowney Acrylic / Caran d’Ache Metallic Pens / Graphik Black Pen / Valspar House Paint
